Mitchell is also the owner of Penguin Group of Companies, PenguinPickUp, REVIVAL Film Studios, Clevelands House Resort, and the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club. He is a self-made entrepreneur recognized in the Forbes World’s Billionnaires List.

Mitchell started SmartCentres with the belief that all Canadians deserved fair pricing for their weekly shopping needs. With a shared vision, he worked to help Walmart enter the Canadian market, which they did in 1994. Mitchell remains Walmart’s only real estate development partner in the world.
Mitchell is leading Project 512, SmartCentres’ transformation from ownership of retail space to ownership of complete, connected, mixed-use communities, on its existing properties across the country. This $12 billion intensification program consists of rental apartments, condos, seniors’ residences, hotels, offices and self-storage facilities. Project 512 includes SmartVMC, the new 100-acre master-planned city centre at Highway 400 and Highway 7 in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, served by the TTC’s university line subway extension.

- REVIVAL Film Studios is one of Toronto’s premier production facilities. Many notable films and TV shows were filmed and produced on site; from ‘Good Will Hunting’ to ‘Schitt’s Creek’.
- Clevelands House Resort is a 1,200-acre waterfront resort in Muskoka.
- Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club has won more titles than any other Israeli club. They have competed in both the Champions and Europa League Group Stages and are the current Israeli Premier League champions.
Mitchell holds a BA in Political Science from York University and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management since 2004, where he has been awarded Teacher of the Year. He is a member of the Board of Onex Corporation, Indigo Books and Music, the Canadian Concussion Centre at Toronto General Hospital, and is Director Emeritus with the SickKids Foundation.
